Fatal and serious motorcycle accidents reported

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) were called to a pair of single-vehicle motorcycle accidents during the past week, one involving serious injuries and the other resulting in a traffic fatality.
According to the HCSO at 8:52 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, the HCSO was called to the railroad crossing on Gilmore Street in Gilmore City. According to the report, when deputies arrived they observed a single motorcycle accident with an unresponsive driver. The Gilmore EMS First Responders were on the scene and had started CPR on the victim. The Humboldt Ambulance Service then transported the driver to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital where the driver, James Paul Cassens, 49, of Algona, was pronounced dead of injuries sustained.
The HCSO was called to a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on Friday, Aug. 21, at 6:40 a.m.
The accident occurred on 270th Street (County Road C-49), three-quarters of a mile east of Highway 169.
According to the report, Chad M. Kuker, 44, of Fort Dodge, was traveling westbound on the 2003 Honda VTX 18000 on 270th Street west of Gotch Park Road. According to the report, Kuker suffered serious, incapacitating injuries when his motorcycle slid on a five-foot gravel patch in the road, which was marked, the HCSO reported. Kuker was Life Flighted by helicopter to Des Moines, but was recovering from several broken bones on Monday.
