Rolfe man dies in Cerro Gordo County crash

A Rolfe man has died from injuries sustained in a traffic accident in Cerro Gordo County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol (ISP), Robert Vaughn, 72, of Rolfe, was traveling northbound on Balsam Avenue north of Ventura. Vaughn was reportedly passing other traffic when he lost control of the 1980 Chevy Corvette he was driving. The vehicle entered the west ditch and rolled before coming to a stop.
The accident occurred on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 9:48 a.m. The ISP reports that Vaughn was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
He was taken to the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, where he died from his injuries.
Assisting the ISP at the scene were the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Hanlontown and Mason City Fire Departments.
The Iowa State Patrol is continuing the investigation into the accident and is releasing no further information at this time.
Services for Robert Vaughn are pending at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
