Humboldt girls turn back SE Valley in regional opener, 70-48

The Humboldt girls' basketball team opened post-season tournament play at home on Saturday night (Feb. 13) by turning back Southeast Valley, 70-48 in a Class 3A Region 2 tournament game inside the Humboldt gym.

Kendal Clark scored 23 points, Bae Arnold made 15 and Jayda Hoefer added 11 to lead the Wildcats, who moved to 18-4 overall.

The victory sends Humboldt into a regional semifinal round game in Orange City on Feb. 17, against Unity Christian of Orange City. Unity Christian, 20-2, defeated Algona in a quarterfinal round game in Orange City, 69-36. The other half of Region 2 had Estherville-Lincoln Central topping Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 48-36 and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows losing at home to Forest City, 45-30. Forest City (16-7) plays at ELC (17-5) in a semifinal round game at Estherville on Feb. 17.

The Region 2 championship game will be played on Saturday, Feb. 22, at a site to be determined.
