Goodell sidelined on day one in state wrestling tournament

Humboldt High sophomore Jase Goodell, ranked No. 5 at 126 pounds, suffered a pair of losses and was eliminated on day one (Feb. 18) in the Class 2A state wrestling tournament in Des Moines.

Goodell was pinned in the third period (5:21) by Independence sophomore Carter Straw, 31-10, in their opening round match. In the consolation wrestleback round, Goodell was pinned in 3:40 by Luke Musich of Harlan to see his hopes of earning a medal come to a close.

Goodell ends the season at 31-4. He was a North Central Conference champion as well as a sectional and district champion for the Wildcats.
