After a public hearing Monday night (April 12) with no objectors, the Humboldt School Board approved next year’s budget of $27,984,547.
In the board’s regular monthly meeting held at the high school media center, Humboldt School Superintendent Jim Murray presented the budget and provided a breakdown on the revenue and spending projections for the 2021-22 school year.
The property tax rate per $1,000 of assessed valuation will be $12.35532, which is nearly identical to the current rate of $12.35368.
Taxes levied on property are expected to bring in $6,209,832. State foundation aid is estimated at $8,431,225. Total revenues and other sources are projected to be $22,249,525.
Murray said to be a truly healthy district financially, the school should have an unspent balance of 15-25 percent of the total budget. Humboldt's was less than 10 percent last year. Murray said staff attrition savings is one way the district can save some funds and avoid big cuts down the road.
