The Humboldt Fire Department and neighboring firefighters from Gilmore City and Bode responded to an apartment fire in Humboldt.
The fire was reported at 11:55 p.m. Saturday night, Aug. 21, at Humboldt Homes Phase 3, 1107 19th St. N.
“When the first truck arrived on the scene windows were broken out and flames were coming out of all three windows. We called Bode and Gilmore City for mutual aid. All the residents got out safely and no one was injured, so that was the big thing,” Humboldt Fire Chief Jim Gronbach said.
The apartment where the fire started was apartment 71. Cindy Boyd was the tenant. Gronbach said Boyd was smoking in bed and fell asleep, catching the mattress on fire.
Outside of apartment 71, the other three apartments sustained only light smoke damage. Rasmussen said tenants in those apartments will be able to move back in this week, as soon as Servpro gets things cleaned out. He said Boyd’s apartment will be repaired.
