Wildcats sweep Algona in 3 sets, clinch league title

The 14th ranked Humboldt volleyball team clinched at least a share of the North Central Conference title Thursday night (Oct. 7) in the Humboldt gym by sweeping the Algona Bulldogs in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-18.

The victory improved Humboldt to 23-4 overall, 6-0 in the NCC.

The Wildcats went 3-2 in the Mason City tournament on Saturday, Oct. 9. Humboldt defeated Central Springs (2-0), Clear Lake (2-0) and Mason City (2-1) and lost to Waverly-Shell Rock (2-0) and Osage (2-0). Humboldt moved to 26-6 overall on the season.

Humboldt will host Algona Garrigan on Oct. 12. The Wildcats host NCC foe Clarion Goldfield Dows on Oct. 14 in their final match of the regular season.

Humboldt begins Class 4A regional tournament play on Oct. 21 against Spencer or Storm Lake, who meet on Oct. 19. The regional final is on Oct. 26 at a site to be determined. The other half of the regional has Webster City playing Waterloo East with the winner meeting Waverly Shell Rock on Oct. 21 in Waverly.
