4th ranked Humboldt turns back Gilbert, 34-10

The unbeaten and No. 4 ranked (Class 3A) Humboldt football team pulled away in the second half to a 34-10 victory over the Gilbert Tigers Friday night (Oct. 8) in a Class 3A District 2 contest at Gilbert.
The Wildcats amassed 452 yards of total offense despite having only 19:33 of possession time. Wildcat senior quarterback Caden Matson completed 11 of 16 passes for four touchdowns with no interceptions. Matson threw three scoring tosses to Jacob Heier, who had four catches for 52 yards. Will Orness caught six passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Matson also rushed 16 times for 167 yards. Lance Coon churned out 93 yards on seven carries.
The Wildcat defense was led by senior linebacker Tanner McKimmey, who was in on nine tackles, which includes three solos. Jace Baker had seven tackles, including five solos. Nolan Lammers (6.5) and Corey Dettmann (5.5) had three and two solos, respectively.
Humboldt moved to 7-0 overall, 3-0 in district play. Gilbert is now 0-7, 0-3.
Humboldt will host Nevada on Oct. 15 in a key district clash at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt. Nevada is 3-0 in district play after turning back Algona, 28-14.
