Reasoner Dam public open house is Oct. 28
The future of the Reasoner Dam will be the subject of a come-and-go open house information session at the Humboldt County Events Center on Thursday, Oct. 28, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend, ask questions and weigh in on a possible course of action. Humboldt County Conservation invites the public to an informative open house regarding the future of the Joe Reasoner Dam in Humboldt.
The open house will be a come and go format on Thursday, Oct. 28, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Humboldt County Events Center at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.
Stantec Engineering Consultants of Des Moines will be presenting three visual renderings of identified alternatives for the dam, along with a cost estimate for each. The alternatives are: Dam rehabilitation with a rock ramp; Dam modification with an objective of lowering the crest of the concrete spillway by approximately seven feet; dam removal to return the West Fork of the Des Moines River to natural flow conditions.
Stantec Consulting; the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, both fisheries and dam regulation divisions; the State Historic Preservation Commission and the Humboldt County Conservation Board will be at the open house to answer questions.
“This is a very important meeting regarding the future of the dam and the Des Moines River in Humboldt County,” Conservation Director Todd Lee said in encouraging the public’s participation in the process.
Again, the come and go open house will be Thursday, Oct. 28, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Humboldt County Events Center.
