Humboldt turns back Algona (35-26) for 1st 9-0 regular season since 1990

The Humboldt High football team capped a perfect regular season Friday night (Oct. 22) by stopping the Algona Bulldogs, 35-26 in a hard-fought Class 3A District 2 contest at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt.
The triumph gave the Wildcats the outright district title as they finished 5-0 in district play, 9-0 overall. It is the school's first 9-0 regular season finish since 1990.
Humboldt senior quarterback Caden Matson scored on touchdown runs of 40 and 2 yards and passed 10 yards to Corey Dettmann and 15 yards to Jacob Heier. Lance Coon scored on a 31-yard run as well. Trever Beach kicked the point-after points for Humboldt, which led 21-14 at halftime.
Humboldt will host Hampton Dumont CAL in a first round state playoff game on Friday, Oct. 29. The winner will play Benton Community or Independence on Nov. 5 at a site to be determined.
