Who should get which shot?

Dr. Cassidy Long recommends all qualified individuals get the booster dose. “I recommend sticking with the same vaccine brand for the booster if it is easily available. If that specific brand is not available, any brand of booster is better than not getting one.”

With FDA and CDC approving the mix and match of booster doses, we have had individuals asking what our recommendations are. Dr. Cassidy Long recommends all qualified individuals get the booster dose. “I recommend sticking with the same vaccine brand for the booster if it is easily available. If that specific brand is not available, any brand of booster is better than not getting one.”
One study shared by the CDC showed all three of the FDA-approved or FDA-authorized vaccine booster doses led to a strong antibody response in groups primed by all three vaccines. For a given COVID-19 primary vaccine series, heterologous (different) boosters elicited similar or higher antibody responses as compared to their respective homologous (same) booster responses.
If you are unsure what is best for you, please schedule an appointment with your primary care provider to discuss the risks and benefits of each vaccine.
