The public is invited to attend a meeting about the future of the Reasoner Dam and the West Branch of the Des Moines River in the city of Humboldt.
The meeting is planned for Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Conservation shop building 407 2nd Ave. North in Dakota City.
The Humboldt County Supervisors will join the Humboldt County Conservation Board in attendance. Humboldt City Council members have also been extended an invitation.
On Monday, new Humboldt City Administrator Cole Bockelmann said he would have some type of analysis and possible city assistance in funding available for the Council’s review by the end of this week.
At its Jan. 19 meeting, the Humboldt County Conservation Board chose Option/Alternative 2, which would lower the dam by 7.5 feet and create a rock ramp structure around the revised structure, promising more pedestrian access, safer fishing locales and more kayak/tubing and canoeing options.
Many residents want to see the dam maintained, silt removed and a continued use of a reservoir of water behind the dam.
