Superintendent Jim Murray reported on architect progress for the proposed facilities work planned at Taft Elementary, the middle school and the high school. He said final plans are expected to be ready for the board’s approval in May, to begin the bidding process this summer with groundbreaking to take place this fall and work completed by the 2023-24 school year.
“Terry Allers of Allers Architects in Fort Dodge has sketches done for Taft, as well as at the high school and middle school. The additional classroom space at the middle school will have to be added onto the south end, which will require the playground to be moved a little bit further south, to take advantage of level ground,” Murray said.
“The gym at Taft will be a steel building but we’ll try to match it with the rest of the Taft building,” Murray said.
The new athletic training complex will added onto the south side of the high school, which will allow for the existing multi-purpose room to be moved further south, east of the trees near the baseball field, and used for cold storage and vocational agriculture program use.
