Wildcat football team blanks Webster City, 10-0 in opener
The Humboldt football team scored late in the game for a 10-0 victory over the Webster City Lynx in a non-district season opener in Humboldt Friday night (Aug. 26).
Trever Beach kicked a 26-yard field goal with 1:30 left in the third quarter and Kaleb McCullough returned a pass interception 60 yards for a touchdown with 13 seconds left in the game to lift Humboldt.
Humboldt quarterback Josh Thurm completed 11 of 19 passes for 124 yards and also rushed for 36 yards as the Wildcats totaled 223 yards of offense. Lance Coon rushed for 48 yards. Will Orness caught four passes for 63 yards. Ty Gargano led the Humboldt defense with 3 solo tackles and 11 assists.
Jaxon Cherry led Webster City with 19 carries for 76 yards rushing. Ty McKinney completed four of 11 passes for 47 yards for the Lynx.
Humboldt will travel to Garner on Friday, Sept. 2, for a non-district matchup with the Cardinals.
