Wildcat boys hold off Lions in thriller, 85-80

The Humboldt boys' basketball team got back into the win column Friday night (Jan. 13) by holding off the Clear Lake Lions, 85-80 in a North Central Conference thriller in the Humboldt gym.

The Wildcats, 7-2 overall, 5-1 in the NCC, were led in scoring by Evan Hatcher and Josh Thurm each with 19 points. Will Orness hit for 17, Elliot Carlson made 12 and Owen Hubbell and 10.

The Lions, 8-1 overall, 3-1 in the NCC, were led by Travaughn Luyobya with 28 points. Titan Schmitt made 15 and Gavin Anderson added 11.

Humboldt will host Manson-Northwest Webster on Monday, Jan. 16.

The Wildcats will host Iowa Falls-Alden on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura visits Humboldt on Jan. 19 in a makeup game from December.

Humboldt visits Fort Dodge St. Edmond on Jan. 20 in a conference matchup with the Gaels.
