Humboldt head wrestling coach Chad Beaman, now in his 20th season leading the Wildcats, was recently named Class 2A Central District Coach of the Year.

Beaman’s Wildcats are currently 14-2 in duals this season and entered the week 5-0 in the North Central Conference with hopes of winning the dual title after placing runner-up last week in the conference tournament. The Wildcats did just that Tuesday night, Jan. 24, by beating FD St. Edmond (63-18) and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (28-27) to win the NCC dual title in outright fashion.

Humboldt is ranked No. 6 in the latest 2A dual team rankings that came out on Jan. 23. The Wildcats will host a regional dual on Jan. 31, which includes Winterset and Ballard Huxley.

Other Central District winners include Jesse Sundell of Ogden, 1A Coach, and Matt Wonderlin, Bondurant-Farrar, 3A Coach. Dustin Roland and Erin Hume are the top girls’ district coaches.
The boys’ top official is Jim Torvik while Lanny Brand is the girls’ top official. Jay Groth of Ankeny Centennial is the Boys’ Wrestling Coach Wildcard vote. The top athletic director in the district is David Flattery of Fort Dodge St. Edmond.
