Mann sets scoring mark, HHS girls to host regional opener Feb. 18

Humboldt sophomore guard Morgan Mann set a new school record for most points in a season Monday night in leading the Wildcat girls' basketball team past Belmond-Klemme, 54-37 in a non-conference game at Belmond on Feb. 6.
Mann scored 27 points to power Humboldt as the Wildcats moved to 14-6 overall for the season. Reagan Lee finished with 10 points. Kayla Gieber supplied four. Scoring three each was Paige Nelson, Kaitlyn Nelson and Madeline Kaufman. Bella Opheim and Aries Packard each had two for Humboldt, which led 27-16 at halftime.
Mann's 407 points broke the previous record of 385 set by Kendal Clark in 2020-21.
Humboldt ended its regular season on Feb. 7 in a 51-36 loss to North Central Conference champion Clear Lake at Clear Lake.
Humboldt drew an opening round bye in the Class 4A regional tournament. Humboldt, in 4A Region One, will play Fort Dodge on Saturday, Feb.18 at 7 p.m. Fort Dodge topped Webster City, 67-49 on Feb. 15 in Fort Dodge. The other half of the region has Carroll and Perry playing on Feb. 15 with the winner playing at Dallas Center-Grimes on Saturday, Feb. 18.
The Region One championship will be played on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The remaining highest-ranked team will be the host school. Dallas Center-Grimes is currently ranked No. 1 in the state.
