Humboldt advances 5 to state wrestling

Humboldt advanced 5 into the state wrestling tournament after competing in a Class 2A district in Webster City on Feb. 11.

Cyler Cirks at 106, Jase Goodell at 152 and Gaige Allen at 182 won their weight classes to move on. Jayden Gargano at 126 and Brady Beers at 138 were runner-up at their weights to secure a spot in the state meet at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Feb. 15-18.

Placing third was Aden Prenger at 106, Ty Gargano at 152, Landon Halverson at 170 and Ethan Kunert at 220. Zayn Feaster at 145 and Colby Caquelin at 195 were fourth. Also competing for Humboldt was Biruk Zemene at 120, Owen Mayall at 132 and Cael Newell at 285.

Class 2A opening round action begins at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15.

Cyler Cirks, 34-7 on the season, drew an opening round bye and will face the winner of the opening round match between Clarion-Goldfield-Dows senior Rigo Bobadilla, 20-18, and West Delaware junior Brayden Maury, 34-5.

Jayden Gargano, 38-6 on the season, will face Oskaloosa freshman Kaiden Parker (29-17) in the opening round.

Brady Beers, 21-23, will face Atlantic's Easton O'Brien, 21-10, in the first round match.

Jase Goodell, 39-4, will also get a first round bye. He will face the winner of the opening bout between Sheldon/South O'Brien senior Coy De Boer, 39-2, and Winterset senior Zeke Hoven, 28-15.

Gaige Allen, 29-13, will meet Knoxville junior Wayne Johnson, 28-12, in a first round match.
