The city of Humboldt is rolling out a Rural Housing Readiness Assessment survey and it wants the public to participate by taking a brief online survey. People can scan the QR code included with this story in the Independent to be directed to the survey.

The city received a grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority for $10,000 and received $5,000 matching funds from the Humboldt County Housing Development Corp.

“That means there is zero cost to the city, but we believe the assessment will show us some very important information about the gaps in housing stock in the community that will lead to the best practices and avenues to address those housing shortage needs,” Humboldt City Administrator Cole Bockelmann explained last week.

At the Humboldt City Council’s Feb. 21 meeting, The Council approved an agreement with Iowa State Extension and Outreach to coordinate the assessment process. The city agrees to pay the agency $5,000 for its work.
