St. Mary School Gala is always a big event and is well attended by members of the community. But some people who are not members of the parish or do not have children in the school district may want to know more about the event. So we asked event committee members to give our readers the details.

Gala will be Saturday, March 11, at 716 Main, with the social hour beginning at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.

This year’s theme is “A Night of Inspiration.’

Guests will be served prime rib and pork loin with loaded baked potato, sautéed green beans, dinner roll, and a salad with a choice of toppings. Also, a decadently layered piece of peanut butter & chocolate or raspberry & lemon cake for dessert.

Complimentary beer and wine will also be available until the end of the auction. The cash raffle drawing will happen before the live auction begins, at approximately 7:30 p.m. Five cash prizes will be awarded: one for $5,000, one for $2,500, and five for $500 each. Only 250 chances will be sold for $100 each. People interested in purchasing a cash raffle ticket, may call the parish office at (515) 332-2856.

Attendees will have a chance to play two games. The first of which is the Fareway Meat and Grocery “Heads or Tails” game where people predict whether a flipped quarter will land on its head or its tail. The last person standing during the chance elimination wins a $250 gift card from Fareway, and the second place winner receives $100 in cash.

The second game is the Seiler Appliance Ring Toss. Attendees can purchase a ring or rings of their choice and try to lasso one of the many items on display. Every person that plays Ring Toss will have their names put in drawing for a chance to win $100 cash.

The live auction will begin at approximately 7:45 p.m. with a large assortment of donations to bid on. One of the year’s most exciting auction items is a one-week stay at a three-bedroom, two-bath house in Maricopa, AZ, airfare for four is also included in the package. The house is fully furnished with a putting green, heated/cooled pool, built-in fire pit, on-site laundry, with a park located next to the house that has pickleball courts, a basketball court, skate park and other amenities. A casino, excellent 18-hole golf course, and mountain hiking are all very close-by.

Other live auction items include four tickets to the Iowa/Iowa State football game in Ames. There will also be four outdoor club seats to the Iowa Hawkeye home football game of your choice. A silent auction will also be ongoing throughout the evening with varied closing times by category between 9-10 p.m. Those items will be available for bidding beginning March 6 on the Gala event site: https://smch2023.ggo.bid
