Humboldt High senior wrestler Baylie Beers has been a team leader throughout her career so it was only fitting that Beers received the Outstanding Wrestler Award in last week’s team banquet held on March 23 at the high school cafeteria.
Wildcat head coach Andy Newell and assistant coach Deni McDaniel, presented the awards at the end. The awards were team-voted.
Beers, a state qualifier at 130 pounds, posted a 24-5 record for the Wildcats as they competed on the mat. While Humboldt had a team the previous three seasons, this past season was the first sanctioned season under the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Beers also received the Team Commitment Award and was awarded the Michelle Jensen Scholarship. The late Michelle Jensen, a secretary at Taft Elementary School was an avid wrestling fan. Beers had a career record of 53-24.
