Elliot Carlson automatic qualifier, HHS boys send 4 events to state
Humboldt sophomore Elliot Carlson earned an automatic berth in next week's state track meet by placing runner-up in the long jump in the Class 3A qualifying meet in Nevada on Thursday, May 11.
Carlson leaped 20-11.75 to secure a spot at state. The top two placewinners in each event, along with the next eight-best finishers statewide, will comprise the field at the state meet in Des Moines May 18-20 at Drake Stadium.
Humboldt will qualify in three other events. The Wildcats' 4-400 relay placed third in 3:30.84, a season's best. The relay consisted of Jackson Dodd, Landyn Dencklau, Tyler Carlson and Mason Van Pelt.
Humboldt's shuttle hurdle relay ran third in 1:03.91. It was made up of Coen Matson, Keegan Groat, Tyler Carlson and Dodd.
Mason Van Pelt ran a personal record time of 2:01.40 in the 800 meters finish fourth in a strong field of entries.
