Baseball team wins opener over MNW, 15-0

The Humboldt baseball team opened their season with a 15-0 drubbing over Manson-Northwest Webster on May 15 in Humboldt.

In a non-conference opener for both schools, the Wildcats scored one run in the first inning, six in the second, one in the third and seven in the fourth to end the game early. Humboldt amassed 13 hits in their four-inning victory over the Cougars of MNW. Senior Joshua Thurm led the way on offense by going 3-for-4 at bat with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in. Busick pitched all four innings and allowed no hits with 10 strikeouts and just one walk.

The Wildcats traveled to Ogden on Friday, May 19, and lost a 5-2 contest to the Ogden Bulldogs. The Wildcats got five hits at Ogden but struck out 15 times as Ogden ace Stellan Wagner earned the win, throwing 11 strikeouts of his own.

Humboldt starter Ty Gargano took the loss on the mound. He threw the first three innings before giving way to Jayden Gargano, who finished up throwing three innings. They combined to allow seven hits and four earned runs. Offensively, Humboldt had Riley Sorensen with two hits and two RBI.

Humboldt visits East Sac County on Tuesday, May 23, in JV-varsity action. Humboldt visits Hampton on Friday, May 26.
