Movies can have a huge impact on one’s life. For Shonda Deranleau, her love of “The Sound of Music” started her on a long and winding path to her current calling.
While most people were drawn to the music and wanted to become a singer, Deranleau wanted to become a nun.
“I told my mom after watching that movie that I wanted to be a nun. I was crushed when she said I couldn’t because we weren’t Catholic,” Deranleau said.
Deranleau’s brother was an organist at their Methodist church in Popejoy and she would go and sit with him while he played. She felt a real connection with church and the music. Read about Pastor Shonda's spiritual journey which was capped this spring by being ordained into the Congregational United Church of Christ. All in this week's Humboldt Independent.
