Methodist Churches to vote on possible disaffiliation
A two-thirds membership vote to separate Faith United Methodist Church from the United Methodist denomination is required for the church to officially head out on its own. One result would be that the local congregation could no longer use official United Methodist branding such as the “Cross and Flame” logo or “United Methodist” in any of its public communications. Members of Faith United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Humboldt County are invited to a special church meeting on June 29, 6 p.m. to vote on whether their congregation should continue to be connected to the United Methodist Church (UMC) denomination or venture out on its own as another independent, non-denominational church in the community. Doors will open at 5:15 at the Humboldt Center location, 107 4th St. N. People are encouraged to come early as no one arriving after 6 p.m. will be permitted to vote.
A “yes” vote means the member supports splitting FUMC from its United Methodist connection. A “no” vote means the member wants the church to stay connected to the denomination.
If a church disaffiliates from the denomination, it severs all financial, organizational and ministry/missionary ties with the Iowa, national and international United Methodist Church organization.
