Humboldt girls over Newell-Fonda, 7-6

The Humboldt girls softball team posted a 7-6 victory over Class 1A Newell-Fonda on June 29 at Newell. Humboldt improved to 17-10 on the season.

Wildcat girls in battle for 2nd place in NCC after 6-3 loss
The Humboldt softball team is in a battle for second-place in the North Central Conference standings after they lost a 6-3 decision at Fort Dodge St. Edmond on Wednesday night, June 28 at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge. Reagan Lee pitched all six innings for Humboldt and allowed six hits and also went 3-for-3 at bat with a double and an RBI.

St. Edmond won the NCC title outright with a 12-2 record. Humboldt falls to 16-10 overall, 10-3 in the NCC.

The Wildcats host Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday, June 30, to wrap up league play. Admission will be free as it will be part of the Relay for Life fundraising event with a meal at 5:30 and cancer survivors being recognized prior to the varsity game.

The Wildcats play at Greene County on Monday, July 3, to end their regular season.

Humboldt will open Class 3A regional tournament play at home on Thursday, July 6, when they host Algona at 7 p.m. The winner will play at Saydel on July 8. No. 7 ranked Saydel hosts Harlan in another first round game. The other half of the regional has Greene County of Jefferson hosting Cherokee Washington and Southeast Valley hosting OABCIG of Ida Grove with a semifinal round game at Jefferson on July 8. The regional final will be played on July 11 and hosted by the highest ranked remaining team.
