Begins 2nd year on Northern Iowa football team

Humboldt’s Ben Kuehnast looks back with approval on the growth he has made since he stepped onto the University of Northern Iowa campus a year ago.

Last year Kuehnast was a red-shirt freshman offensive lineman on the Panther football team. A finance major, Kuehnast added 25 to 30 pounds on his 6-foot-7 frame and found himself playing with the second-team players in spring ball.

Academically, he’s made the transition as well after graduating from Humboldt High School in 2022.

“I think my first year went pretty well academically. I’m not taking anything too crazy but there were definitely some difficult classes tougher than high school. For my first semester I did alright considering it was in-season with a lot going on,” Kuehnast said.

“In the second semester there wasn’t quite so much going on and so I did better and my grade point average was a lot higher. Overall, I thought it was a good first year for me,” Kuehnast said.
