Wildcat girls return 8 letter winners in cross country

Humboldt’s first-year head cross country coach Spencer Ross is optimistic for upper division finishes from both the Wildcat girls and boys teams this fall.

The Wildcat girls return eight letterwinners from last year’s squad, which finished fourth in the North Central Conference meet.

Brynn Malo was Humboldt’s lone representative in the state meet, where she finished 31st overall in 20:18 as a freshman.

“On the girls’ side last year, we were 20 points out of second. A few runners here and there can make a 20-point swing. Ahead of us was Clear Lake, which returns five out of its top six runners from that meet. St. Edmond and Iowa Falls were tied for second. St. Edmond returns four of their top five and Iowa Falls loses two of their top three. We return our top seven runners from that conference meet,” Ross said.

Humboldt begins its season in the Iowa Falls-Alden Invitational at Mayne's Grove north of Iowa Falls on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. It was moved from Aug. 25 due to intense heat and humidity.
