Cy-Hawk Rivalry renews on Sept. 7 in Humboldt
By KENT THOMPSON
It doesn’t matter where your loyalties lie, Cardinal and Gold or Gold and Black, everyone can have fun and support Humboldt Wildcat athletics by participating in the Cy-Hawk Rivalry on Sumner on Thursday, Sept. 7, in downtown Humboldt.
Activities will be kicking off around 4 p.m. that day and will be continuing till 10 p.m.
This is the third year the Humboldt Athletic Booster Club has been organizing the event.
Organizer Cassie Harklau said the event is taking shape but there is still a lot of work to do.
“We are seeking donations and volunteers and will be seeking help up to the day of the event,” Harklau said.
An apparel fundraiser was just concluded but there is still time to plant signs of the opposing team on your favorite Cyclone or Hawkeye fans’ lawn. Contact a Humboldt Booster Club member, contact Harklau at (515) 368-2711 or message Humboldt Athletic Booster Club to get your signs planted.
Another way people can donate to the event is by scanning the QR code people see on the Cy-Hawk flyers and advertisements. That will send a person to a Venmo account pay site and in three clicks you can support Humboldt Athletics.
There is still time to be a vendor. People or businesses need to pay a $300 vendor fee by Sept. 1 to get their names on a map. Vendors may send payment to Booster Club treasurer Amy Donahe, P.O. Box 37, Humboldt, IA 50548.
As far as activities, there will be a kids’ zone with free fun and games from 4-7 p.m. in the Parley Finch Plaza pocket park. There will also be some kids’ activities along Sumner sponsored by the local businesses.
There will be a corn hole tournament in the 700 block near US Bank. Sign up is at 4:30 p.m. with the tourney starting at 5:30 p.m. People can pre-register at Dieleman.sarah@gmail.com
There will be music and other fun activities and contests. Not the least of which will be the WHO TV personalities and the RVTV show with live remotes throughout the afternoon and evening.
“It’s never a bad thing to have a guaranteed, winning and unbelievable stop on the RVTV tour,” said WHO sports reporter and anchor John Sears, in a previously published Humboldt Independent article.
“They’ll have great visuals, great people and great fun. That’s why we keep coming back to Humboldt. It’s because they know how to do it and they do it right. Every time we go there the people are great and it is such a blast and they love doing it,” Sears said.
There will be a live auction beginning gat 6:30 p.m. There will be a Blackstone grill, some autographed Cyclone and Hawkeye items and other special surprise items.
People are asked to check the Humboldt Athletic Booster Club Facebook page and look for any updated information at www.humboldtnews.com
“It’s a great time to be a Wildcat and it’s always fun supporting your favorite team and razing the opposition,” Harklau said.
Humboldt may be a town divided but it is Wildcat united!
