Brynn Malo runs 5th in NCC cross country, HHS girls 4th

Humboldt High sophomore Brynn Malo placed fifth overall in leading her Wildcat team to a fourth-place finish in the North Central Conference cross country meet held on Tuesday, Oct. 10 on Lakeside Golf Course at Kennedy Park north of Fort Dodge.

Malo finished with a time of 20:26.96. Addison Doughan of Clear Lake was first in 19:15.31. Clear Lake won the girls team title with 47 points, followed by Fort Dodge St. Edmond at 59, Iowa Falls-Alden with 74, Humboldt 109, Algona 114, Hampton-Dumont-CAL 125 and Webster City at 178.

Bella Metti followed Malo by placing 19th in 22:24. Meg Zweibohmer was 24th in 22:55, Alana Malo 30th in 23:23, Elsie Statesman 31st in 23:29 Joslyn Orr 32nd in 23:29 and Payton Elman was 36th in 23:54.

Humboldt's boys placed fifth as a team with 125 points. Clear Lake won the team crown with 34 points. Algona had 53, St. Edmond 67 and Webster City 111. Iowa Falls-Alden was sixth with 164 and Hampton-Dumont-CAL seventh at 167.

Justin Ash paced the Wildcat boys with a 19th-place finish in 18:53.67. Jaden Nimrod was 22nd in 19:09 and Gabe Thumma was 26th in 19:48. Hayden Hansen ran 28th in 20:08. Peyton Van Pelt was 30th in 20:16. Carson Chambers was 35th in 20:52 and Austin Little 38th in 20:56.

Graham Bakken paced the Wildcat JV boys by placing 18th in 21:39. Caden Roe was 19th in 21:47. Henry Bormann was 22nd in 21:56.

Sarah Numedahl led Humboldt's JV girls with a seventh-place finish in 24:36. Kinley Nilles was 10th in 25:04. Claire Weydert ran 11th in 25:28.

Aubry Fisher led Humboldt's middle school girls with a first-place finish in 13:04. Alexis Hotovec was ninth in 15:35. AJ Stringer led the Humboldt middle school boys with a 30th-place finish in 14:56.

Humboldt will now prepare for the Class 3A state qualifying meet at Spencer on Oct. 18. The top three teams and the top 15 individual runners advance to the state meet in Fort Dodge, set for Oct. 28.
