Wildcats bow to No. 3 Raiders in 3A playoffs, 23-0

No. 3 Williamsburg flexed its offensive muscle and displayed a stingy defense all night long to defeat the Humboldt Wildcats, 23-0 last Friday night (Oct. 27) in the opening round of the Class 3A state football playoffs.

In a game played at Williamsburg, the host Raiders took a 16-0 halftime lead and never let up to end Humboldt's season at 5-5 overall. The Raiders, 9-1 overall, host 9-1 Mount Vernon in the quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.

Humboldt finished with 72 yards passing from quarterback Coen Matson while Lance Coon was the leading ground gainer with eight yards on 12 carries. Corey Dettmann had five pass catches for 53 yards.

Junior linebacker Keegan Groat led the Humboldt defense with eight tackles, including six solos. Dettmann had five solos.

Williamsburg had 109 passing yards and 167 rushing yards.

Humboldt will host its season-ending banquet on Sunday, Nov. 12, 6 p.m.
