Honors distributed at Wildcat football banquet
On a night which included plenty of emotion, a large crowd was on hand Sunday night to pay tribute to the Humboldt Wildcat football team on the recent 2023 season.
Wildcat sixth-year head coach Derrick Elman and his staff recognized the squad for their growth and success at all three levels of varsity, junior varsity and freshman football.
Elman, who finished his sixth season guiding Humboldt, led Humboldt to an overall record of 5-5, including 3-2 in a rugged Class 3A District 2. Despite heavy graduation losses from the previous two seasons where Humboldt advanced to the state playoff semifinals, the 2023 Wildcats were in the hunt for the district title right up until the final week of the regular season and earned a spot in the playoffs. The Wildcats fell in the first round to No. 2 Williamsburg, which is playing the finals this weekend.
Recipients of the Bad Cat Award, Wildcat football’s highest award, include seniors Corey Dettmann and Grant Dieleman.
The Scout Team Player of the Year Award, voted by the players, went to junior lineman Alex Armitage and sophomore quarterback Jackson Flaherty.
