Rural Renwick man arrested on weapons charges as domestic abuser

Lonney Tate, 60, 1136 Virginia Ave., was arrested on Wednesday after a brief standoff with law enforcement at his rural home southeast of Lu Verne. Tate was charged with three counts of possession of a firearm as a convicted domestic abuser. He has posted bond and been released.

A rural Renwick man was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of a firearm as a convicted domestic abuser, all class D felonies, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reports.
On Wednesday, Jan. 10, at approximately 5 p.m., the Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center received a report of a domestic disturbance at 1136 Virginia Ave., 2-1/2 miles east of Lu Verne. Initial reports indicated a male subject at the residence armed with a firearm.
Upon arrival at the scene by members of the sheriff’s office, brief contact with the party in question did not result in an acceptable outcome, as the individual refused to cooperate.
The HCSO then requested assistance in the matter from the Iowa State Patrol, Wright County Sheriff’s Office and Humboldt Police Department.
The male subject was able to be contacted by phone and he agreed to let law enforcement approach where he was detained. Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that the male subject, Lonney Tate, 60, 1136 Virginia Ave., had a previous conviction for domestic abuse assault in another state, leading to the three charges.
Tate was transported to the Humboldt County Jail without incident and was held on $15,000 cash bond. During his initial appearance on Thursday before the Humboldt County magistrate judge, bond was modified to 10 percent of the total, or $1,500, and Tate subsequently bonded out of jail.
The HCSO was assisted by the aforementioned law enforcement agencies along with Humboldt County Emergency Management, Renwick Ambulance and the Humboldt County Attorney.
Tate is considered innocent of all charges until proven guilty in a court of law.
