Humboldt girls knock off league leader Algona, top HDC

Mann becomes scoring leader

The Humboldt girls’ basketball team, fresh off their impressive win at Clear Lake 24 hours earlier, knocked off conference leader Algona Tuesday night (Jan. 23) in the Humboldt gym, 59-49. Junior guard Morgan Mann scored 27 points to lead all scorers. She also became Humboldt’s all-time 5-player career scoring leader with 1,133. She surpassed Avery Terwilliger, who held the top spot for several years with 1,124 points. Kaitlyn Nelson followed Mann with 9 points. Reagan Lee and Paige Nelson each had 8. Kuhlmann and VanOtterloo led Algona with 18 and 15 points, respectively.

Humboldt traveled to Hampton on Jan. 26 and rolled to a 51-26 victory over the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL. Morgan Mann scored 16 points, Paige Nelson made 13 and Ava Fischer added 12 for Humboldt, which improved to 13-4 overall, 9-2 in league play.

Humboldt hosts South Central Calhoun on Jan. 29. The Wildcats visit Clarion on Jan. 30.
