At their recent monthly meeting, the Humboldt School Board received an update on mental health and school safety from the administrative team.
Jessica Goodenow, assistant high school principal, led off the report to the board at their Jan. 15 meeting.
“The keyfob system is going well with district-wide access between the middle school and high school buildings. There are more areas of the buildings that fobs are being added,” Goodenow said. “It’s a great safety pre-caution where we can keep tabs on people who are using those doors. Several have been added to the athletic complex.”
“All secretaries have panic buttons.”
“We have a software system on the computers that helps flag potential threats that administration and counselors utilize daily. It can flag explicit content or pick up if someone intends to do self-harm. We use that software all the time to make sure our students are safe in the building,” Goodenow said.
“Mease has new locks being put in their interior doors. One area that is the biggest inhibitor is a locked door. We are also going to install new security cameras inside the new Wildcat Athletic Complex,” Goodenow said.
“We are looking at a visitor background check system," the assistant high school principal said. Read more about mental health and student coping mechanisms in this week's Humboldt Independent, your trusted source for local news and sports.
