Local food drives planned
In a collective effort to combat food insecurity in our community, residents of Humboldt County are invited to join in a special food drive Saturday, Feb. 10, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Humboldt Fareway Grocery Store.
The food drive will be held to benefit the Humboldt County Food Pantry. It will be staffed by the Humboldt County Democrats.
According to Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks, 9.5 percent of all Humboldt County residents were food insecure in 2021, the most recent year for which they have data.
The rate of food insecurity for Humboldt County’s children was 11.5 percent.
Service clubs join forces to help feed the hungry
Humboldt County service clubs will be shopping for a cause on Sunday, Feb. 18. The cause is to help feed the hungry in Humboldt County.
The Humboldt Lions Club, Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club and Knights of Columbus will be conducting a supermarket shopping spree fundraiser in cooperation with Fareway grocery store on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. Food items will go to the Humboldt County Food Pantry and the F.U.E.L. program in the local schools.
Two-person teams from the four service clubs will be conducting a shopping spree six minutes in length, each to be run separately. The goal is to be the club coming the closest to $500 in merchandise without going over. The club coming the closest will receive a traveling trophy.
