Humboldt boys’ wrestling squad recognized at banquet
Another stellar season in the record books for the Humboldt boys’ wrestling team.
A large crowd was on hand last week (March 5) for the Humboldt boys’ wrestling banquet, held at the high school cafeteria.
The event paid tribute to the Wildcat program, led by veteran head coach Chad Beaman, who completed his 21st season at the helm and led the Wildcats to the North Central Conference dual team title as well as an eventual fifth-place finish in the state dual team tournament back on Feb. 3 and a 22-2 overall dual record.
At the individual state tournament in Des Moines in mid-February, Humboldt had five qualifers and ended up with two placewinners. Freshman Broedy Hendricks was a state runner-up at 165 pounds while Owen Mayall (120) and Tyce Clarken (126) were both eighth-place medalists. Fueling optimism for next year, all five qualifiers will return next season.
Beaman, who has a career won-loss record of 476-215-3, was honored as Class 2A Coach of the Year at the state tournament. Assistants Mark Cirks and Justin McDaniel both were named assistant coach of the year.
“The coaching award is a reflection on our staff and our entire community. Our success is not accident. A lot of people contribute to our program to make us successful year in and year out,” Beaman said.
“That is truly a pre-k through grade 12 award. Our coaches to an outstanding job and I appreciate that commitment,” Beaman said.
