HHS boys top Lynx, Lions in key NCC golf matchup

Humboldt’s varsity boys’ golf team took a big step toward their goal of winning the North Central Conference by turning back Clear Lake and Webster City in a triangular at Webster City on April 18.

The Wildcats finished with a 159 total to edge Clear Lake (161) and Webster City (164). Parker Sleiter shot an even-par 36 to lead Humboldt and earn medalist honors. Carson Sleiter and Cade Birdsell each shot 40 and Corey Dettmann finished with 43. Carson Arndt fired a 45 and Caeden Frideres added a 48.

Taylor Plagge shot a 39 to lead Clear Lake. Eli Anderson shot 40 while Gavin Roske and Dylan Bieber each had a 41. Cael Nixon’s 37 paced the Lynx. Braylon Plain had a 39, Braden Doering a 43 and Dawson Bertran 45.

Humboldt was third in the JV portion of the meet with a 192. Clear Lake had 176 and Webster City 185.

Cyler Cirks shot a 46 to pace Humboldt. He was followed by Riley Sorensen with a 48, Joel Thurm 49, Carson Oleson 49, Mack Harklau 52 and Syler Brown 54.

Humboldt shot a 165 to top Algona (170) and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (216) in NCC golf at Algona on April 25. Carson Sleiter and Cade Birdsell each shot a 40 to pace the Wildcats.

The North Central Conference tournament will be played on Monday, May 6, at Fort Dodge Country Club.

Humboldt will also host a Class 3A Sectional tournament on May 8 at Spring Valley Golf Course north of Livermore. District tournament action is on Monday, May 13, at Carroll.
