Wildcat girls 3rd in Humboldt Relays

Tayla Wempen and Brynn Malo won individual titles to lead the Humboldt girls’ track team to a third-place finish in their own relays Monday night at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt.

Wempen, a senior, won the long jump with a leap of 16-2.75 while Malo, a sophomore distance standout, won the 3,000-meters in 11:39.2.

The Wildcats had numerous top three finishes, including Drake Relays qualifier Ashlynn Works, second in the discus at 124-10. Hampton-Dumont-CAL standout Charlee Morton was first at 128-0.

Humboldt totaled 99 points. Algona won the crown with 131 points. Fort Dodge St. Edmond was second at 100.5.

Humboldt finished second at the Storm Lake Relays on April 25. The Wildcats had 85 points. Host Storm Lake won with 126.

The North Central Conference meet will be on Thursday, May 2 at Hampton. The state qualifying meet will be on May 9 at Clear Lake.
