Sumner Avenue Hill work begins Monday

More details have been released regarding the Sumner Avenue rehabilitation project planned this spring and summer.
Humboldt City Administrator Cole Bockelmann reported on Monday that he met with the main contractor for the project last Friday, and work on the first phase is slated to begin next Monday, April 29.
Blacktop Service Company in Humboldt is main contractor for the $1.4 million project, which will include mill and overlay with hot mix asphalt of Sumner Avenue from the top of the hill to the Dakota City limits.
Other work will include some patching and new curb and gutter where needed and new decorative lighting going up the hill.
“The designated detour route will be Highway 169 (13th Street) to 3rd Avenue North and then east to 9th Street North and back south to the downtown area,” Bockelmann said.
“Phase One will be the longest phase. We are not sure how long that will take. It will depend on if the base of the road is shot and how much work will be required to build that up for the overlay,” Bockelmann said.
