Humboldt boys 3rd in NCC track

Humboldt's boys ended up placing third in a competitive North Central Conference track and field event held on May 2 in Clarion.
The Wildcats finished with 127 points. Algona won with 150 and Clear Lake was second at 141. Iowa Falls-Alden took fourth with 105. Webster City (77), Hampton-Dumont-CAL (68), Fort Dodge St. Edond (61) and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (8) round out the scoring.
Humboldt won the 4x400 relay in 3:30.27. It consisted of Jackson Dodd, Chase Flaherty, Elliot Carlson and Mason Van Pelt.
Humboldt's 4x800 relay also won with a time of 8:40.07. The relay was comprised of Peyton Van Pelt, Jackson Flaherty, Justin Ash and Chase Flaherty.
Humboldt's 1,600-meter medley relay also took first in 3:41.70. It was made up of Keegan Groat, Elliot Carlson, Landyn Dencklau and Mason Van Pelt.
Elliot Carlson won the long jump with a leap of 21-2.
Humboldt will now set its focus on the upcoming Class 3A state qualifying meet in Clear Lake on Thursday May 9. The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify for state, along with the next best eight performances statewide. The state meet will be May 16-18 in Des Moines.
