Wildcat girls 5th in NCC track

Humboldt finished fifth in the team scoring of the North Central Conference girls track and field championship held at Hampton on May 2.
The Wildcats finished with 79 points. Clear Lake won the crown with 172.5 points and Algona was runner-up with 135.5. Fort Dodge St. Edmond was third at 92 and Hampton-Dumont-CAL fourth with 79.5. After Humboldt, Webster City (75), Iowa Falls-Alden (58.5) and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (35) round out the scoring.
Humboldt's Jerzie Wempen was second in the shot put (32-0) and Ashlynn Works second in the discus (130-11). Brynn Malo was second in the 1,500-meters in 5:19.86. Tayla Wempen was second in the long jump (15-2).
The Wildcats will prepare for the Class 3A state qualifying meet at Clear Lake on Thursday, May 9. The top two finishers automatically qualify for state with the next eight best finishes statewide comprising the state field. The state meet will be May 16-18 in Des Moines.
