With the Sumner Avenue paving project well underway, the Humboldt City Council Monday night (June 3) approved pay application number one with Blacktop Service Company of Humboldt.
The council approved a payment of $228,907.61 for the project, which began in late-April. Joey Whitehouse, an engineer with ISG, was on hand at the meeting to review the project.
“This (payment) is for everything that has gone on with this project from the start until now, which has been milling the pavement and placing back concrete. That includes patches, curbs and sidewalk,” Whitehouse said. “Partial traffic control and mobilization is also in those numbers.”
“After we milled off the top layer, we found out the pavement was pretty poor, but that was expected. We knew that was old and this was the last leg in the life of that road,” Whitehouse said. “We took three inches off and went back and patched a lot of the areas. We had plenty of patching quantity to work with. We are well under that with this pay application. We will be very strict to make sure it lines up at the end.”
