Accident in rural Humboldt County claims 2 lives

An accident at a rural Humboldt County intersection late Saturday afternoon claimed the lives of two Dakota City residents.

According to a report released by the Iowa State Patrol and the Humboldt County Sheriff's department, a 2004 Ford F250 pickup driven by Terry Dean George, 63, Hardy, was traveling east on 170th Street (C26), when it collided with a southbound utility vehicle occupied by Theodore Joseph Prenger, 43, and his wife, Teresa Ann Prenger, 56, both of Dakota City.

The utility vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign and yield to the right of way. The pickup truck struck the passenger side of the utility vehicle. The impact sent both vehicles into the southeast corner ditch of the intersection, where both vehicles caught on fire.

George was transported by a private vehicle to the hospital in Clarion. The Prengers were transported to the state medical examiner's facility in Ankeny by Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt.

The Humboldt Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services responded to the accident. The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, assisted by the Humboldt County Sheriff's department.
