Wildcats wallop Charles City, 42-0, host Algona in key district clash Oct. 11

Humboldt overcame a slow start and had no trouble in walloping Charles City, 42-0 before a large homecoming crown at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt on Friday night, Oct. 4.
The victory improved Humboldt to 5-1 overall, 2-0 in Class 3A District 2.
Humboldt quarterback Coen Matson threw a 71-yard scoring pass to Chase Flaherty late in the first quarter and the duo teamed up again midway through the second quarter on a 30-yard scoring pass.
Humboldt linebacker Cael Donahe intercepted a Charles City pass to set up the Wildcats' third touchdown, a 5-yard run by Matson. Mason Van Pelt scored on a 16-yard run late in the second quarter to give Humboldt a 28-0 halftime lead.
Cash McIntire scored on a 15-yard run late in the third quarter and Jaxson Kirchhoff scored on a 1-yard run with 9:02 left in the fourth quarter to make it 42-0 Wildcats. Karson Rubel was successful on all of his extra point kicks on the night. Humboldt linebacker Landon Halverson led the defense with six solo tackles and three assists.
Humboldt will now prepare for its showdown at home with the top-ranked Algona Bulldogs on Friday, Oct. 11. Algona, 6-0 overall, 2-0 in the NCC, defeated Clear Lake, 28-7 on Friday night.
