KATHRYN MACVEY

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kathryn “Eileen” (Morrison) MacVey on Oct. 3, 2024, at the age of 89. Eileen was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, known for her generosity and dedication to service.
Born in Sulphur Springs, to Byron and Fern Morrison, Eileen grew up in Humboldt, where she made lifelong friendships that remained close to her heart. She had a passion for music, playing both the saxophone and piano, and shared that love with her children and grandchildren.
Eileen and her late husband, Curtis, were devoted members of First United Methodist Church in Ankeny, where she actively volunteered and served as President of the United Methodist Women. She lived a life of service, participating in mission trips, volunteering with United Way, and helping neighbors in need.
While raising her four children—Karen, Karl, Laura, and Kirk—Eileen also worked for the Ankeny School District. As a devoted grandmother to six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, she created joyful memories and cherished family traditions, including her famous 4th of July water gun fights.
In her later years, Eileen continued to spread joy and kindness at Mill Pond and Independence Village, where she made new friends and brought happiness to those around her. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited with Curtis, her husband of 58 years, and that they are dancing together again.
Eileen is survived by her children: Karen MacVey (Regina), Karl MacVey (Debra), Laura Castiglione (Jimmy), and Kirk MacVey (Dorene); her six grandchildren: Chantelle Maxwell (Ben), Nicolle Brokaw (James), Eric Johnson, Michelle Hayes (Koby), Rylan MacVey (Alyssa), and Marisa Tiffany (Andrew); and her nine great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love and countless cherished memories.
A funeral service will take place on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Ankeny (206 SW Walnut St, Ankeny, IA).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Ankeny First United Methodist Church in her memory.
