LAWRENCE R. DORHOUT

Lawrence “Larry” Dorhout, age 90, of Humboldt, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024 at Bickford Assisted Living in Fort Dodge. Memorial services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Inurnment took place in Union Cemetery in Humboldt. Lentz Funeral Home of Humboldt assisted the family.
Lawrence Richard Dorhout, the son of Samuel and Mary (Rynders) Dorhout, was born on April 7, 1934 in Sioux Center. In 1951, Larry graduated from Sioux Center High School. He then received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from the Iowa State Teachers College. On Aug. 16, 1959, Larry was united in marriage with Loretta AnnLynn Evans in Joice.
Larry began teaching at Boone Valley High School in 1959. He then became Principal at Vernon School while he worked on his Master’s Degree through Colorado State University. Larry and Loretta moved to Humboldt in 1962 when Larry became the Principal at Taft Elementary School. He retired in 1997, after being an educator for 38 years.
Larry was a member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin on Big Spirit Lake, boating, wildlife, golfing, attending musicals and plays, traveling and wintering in Florida and Arizona. Larry loved his family and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He taught all of his grandchildren to drive by the age of 12.
Left to cherish Larry’s memory are his children, Diane (Jim) Arndt of Humboldt and Doug (Alison) Dorhout of Denison; grandchildren, Lexie, Jack, Dawson and Carson; and siblings, Evelyn Henderson of Price, UT, Arnold (Fran) Dorhout of Palm Springs, CA, Don (Susan) Dorhout of Sioux Center, Marlin (Marlene) Dorhout of Denver, CO, Ken (Helen) Dorhout of Virginia Beach, VA, Wendell (Emily) Dorhout of Beresford, S.D. and Galen (Diane) Dorhout of Seguin, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and siblings, Harvard Dorhout, Ruth Engelbert, Warren Dorhout and George Dorhout.
