GARY D. SHAFFER

Gary Shaffer, 79 of Livermore, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Life Gate Fellowship Church in Humboldt. Gary Daniel Shaffer, the son of Daniel Ethridge and Eleanor Louise (Grundstrom) Shaffer, was born on Sept. 15, 1945, in Tacoma, WA. He attended Stadium High School in Tacoma. On Feb. 26, 1963, Gary enlisted with the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He was Honorably discharged on Jan. 29, 1967. Gary continued to serve with the National Guard. On Dec. 24, 1967, Gary was united into marriage to Joyce Morey. To this union, the couple welcomed three daughters: Pamela, Gina and Carmen. The marriage later dissolved. Through Gary’s second marriage, he gained stepsons Joe Hilton and Philip Trexel, with whom he remained close. Gary was a man who never sat still and loved to work. Throughout his life, Gary worked for Jet Co., Chantland’s, Royal Charters and most recently Blacktop Service.
Gary enjoyed tinkering in his shop. You would always find him working on anything with a motor, especially his beloved 1967 Ford Falcon, which had belonged to his mother. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a member of the Livermore Legion, Algona VFW and Life Gate Fellowship Church in Humboldt.
Left to cherish Gary’s memory are his daughters: Pamela (Dan) Berte of Lakota, Gina (Rob) Satern of Klemme and Carmen Fleming of Rockport, TX; seven grandchildren: Dalton Berte (Teri Ree) of Buffalo Center, Shelby (Taylor) Illg of Humboldt, Brandon Berte (Keona Ries) of Bancroft and Jackson Berte of Johnston, Cade Satern (Celine Wright) of Garner, Kyla Fleming of Livermore and Julian Fleming of Humboldt; three great-grandchildren: Lucas Thomas and Naomi Satern (Cade and Celine) and Warren Berte (Dalton and Teri). Siblings: Curt (Marlene) Shaffer of Spanaway, WA and Diane Shaffer of Gig Harbor, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents: Daniel and Eleanor Shaffer and brother-in-law: Carl Fredback.
