Wahlert Dubuque rolled to a 35-7 halftime lead over Humboldt and never looked back as they went on to beat the Wildcats, 49-14 in the Class 3A state championship game inside the UNI-Dome on Friday, Nov. 22.

The Golden Eagles, playing in the school's first-ever state championship, capitalized on three Humboldt turnovers and used their size and quickness to their advantage as they finished the year unbeaten at 13-0 with their impressive performance over the Wildcats.

Humboldt's dream season ends with an 11-2 overall record under seventh-year head coach Derrick Elman, whose squad won Class 3A District 2 this past season.

Humboldt's only scoring in the game took place in the first and third quarters. Cash McIntire ran 80 yards for a touchdown at 9:31 in the first quarter to tie the game at 7-7. Humboldt quarterback Coen Matson hit Valley Davis on a 3-yard scoring pass at 5:09 in the third quarter.

Matson finished the game with 159 yards passing and Chase Flaherty caught four passes for 64 yards. McIntire led the Wildcat rushing with 88 yards on seven carries. Broedy Hendricks led the defense with eight tackles. Cyler Cirks had seven.
