Newell-Fonda clips Wildcat girls in basketball opener, 70-56

Class 1A power Newell-Fonda brought its high-powered squad to the Humboldt gym and posted a 70-56 victory over the Wildcats in a non-conference season opener for both schools Monday night, Nov. 25.

Morgan Mann scored 20 points, Ava Fischer made 17 and Paige Nelson had 11 to lead Humboldt. Ava Newton supplied eight.

The Mustangs were led by Jocee Walsh with 19 points. Ellie Sievers and Kinsey Hinders each had 15 while Anna Mercer netted 12 for the Mustangs, who led 41-26 at halftime. Humboldt pulled within single digits in the third quarter but couldn't gain ground on the Mustangs, outscored the Wildcats down the stretch to preserve their win.

Humboldt will return to action on Dec. 2 when they host Manson-Northwest Webster.
